Sort Them Ducks Confusing Ducks and Lookalikes
When the costume lies, the name on screen is still telling the truth.
Most Sort Them Ducks categories are obvious. Then you hold a toy that looks like two jokes at once and the cozy loop pauses. Preview coverage said the on-screen name usually saves you. This page is for the moments it does not feel like enough, and for the physical bugs that mimic confusion.
Use it beside categories and missing ducks. Confusion is a sorting problem. Missing is a counter problem. Do not grind a lookalike if the plank is already full.
Rule zero: read the name twice
Hold still. The HUD is not flavor text. If it says a family you do not like, that is still the family. Players lose time arguing with hats. Hats are a decoration layer on half the shop.
If the name is tiny on a handheld, raise the UI scale if the build offers it, or walk closer. Do not guess from silhouette on Deck while walking.
Tower colors
Yellow, Dark Blue, and Green Tower ducks share a body language. Lighting in the shop will lie. The name will not. If you have extras of Green and a deficit of Yellow, you are probably not mis-sorting — you are in the stuck-clear report. Update, respawn, then stop forcing Green onto Yellow. Patch notes claimed a counter fix; known issues tracks whether players still see it.
Chefs, food, and hitboxes
Chefs want the chef sign. Food wants food. If you place with your camera inside a fruit unit, the game may pick up a duck from the far side instead of seating the one in your hand. That is not a lookalike. That is collision. Sidestep into the aisle. Place again. If you stole a seated duck, put it back before the counter drifts.
Capes, mascots, animals, superheroes
Anything with a cape can read as superhero, animal, or joke mascot. Window light on those aisles makes paint noisier. Turn your back to the window, read the name, then turn back to place. If haze is the real enemy, leave the neighborhood for last as the store map suggests.
When to press a skill
Reveal-shelf exists for this page. One timer, one stubborn costume, then go back to walking. Highlight-matches is for after you know the family and want copies. Fill-from-hand is not a translator; it will happily vacuum the wrong joke if that is what you are holding. See skills.
A two-minute unstick ritual
- Crouch, reread the name.
- Find the sign, not a similar plank.
- If two signs still fit, use reveal once.
- If the unit will not accept the duck, you have the wrong family or a full shelf.
- If the shelf is full and the counter disagrees, leave this page.
The shop wants you slightly unsure sometimes; that is how 4,015 toys stay interesting. It does not want you angry. If you are angry, it is probably a bug or a hitbox, and those have their own guides.
Lookalikes versus bugs, one more time
A lookalike accepts the duck when you find the right sign. A bug rejects the duck or counts the wrong color even when the name matches. If the unit glows like it wants your toy and then says no, reread the name. If it says yes and the counter does not move, you placed through a hitbox onto a neighbor or the counter is lying. The first case is this page. The second is missing ducks. Mixing them is how a five-minute doubt becomes a deleted save.
Take a screenshot of the HUD name before you mail support. “Weird duck” is not a report. “HUD says Green Tower, Yellow counter still hungry, extras in hand” is a report. Then go place a pirate. The shop has plenty of easy wins waiting while the confusing one sits on a bench.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers to the questions players ask after a long sorting session.
The duck looks like two categories. What do I do?
Read the HUD name twice. If it still feels split, use the reveal-shelf skill once, then walk to that sign only.
Why do food shelves steal ducks?
The interact can reach through the unit. Stand in the aisle you mean. Put stolen ducks back immediately.
Are Tower mix-ups my fault?
Often not. Color extras plus a deficit is a documented stuck-clear pattern. Update and respawn before you restart the save.
Should I use highlight on lookalikes?
Highlight copies of what you already hold. It does not translate a confusing name. Reveal does.
